This week: Shutdown stretches to third week
October 14, 2025
The federal government remains shut down as the lapse in funding stretches to a third week and layoffs have begun in at least ten departments and agencies. The Senate returns today following a brief recess in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day, with the House remaining in-district at this time.
Happening this week:
- Thursday, the credit union movement celebrates International Credit Union Day; and
- Comments are due to the Treasury Department Friday on strategies to combat digital fraud.
There are no hearings currently scheduled on Capitol Hill. America’s Credit Unions will share updates as the situation in Washington, D.C., evolves. Credit unions providing government shutdown-related outreach and services are encouraged to share their efforts in an online survey. The survey and other resources are available on America’s Credit Unions’ Government Shutdown Assistance webpage.
