America’s Credit Unions meets with House Majority Whip

Key credit union meetings with congressional leaders, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., are underway as Congress returns to session.

America’s Credit Unions’ Abby Gunderson-Schwarz met with Emmer and multiple Republican House Financial Services Committee members last week as part of a key stakeholders gathering to discuss issues facing the financial industry.

Gunderson-Schwarz flagged for lawmakers the impact of burdensome regulations coming out of the CFPB and other regulators on community-based credit unions.

Emmer introduced the Credit Union Governance Modernization Act, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March 2022. He has also addressed credit unions numerous times at past credit union events and supported credit union opposition to proposed expanded IRS reporting requirements.

America’s Credit Unions shared its policy priorities for 2024 with members of Congress and heads of regulatory agencies.
