Congress passes funding for parts of government

The Senate Friday passed the first government funding package to fund parts of the government until September. The bill was passed just prior to the midnight deadline and prevents a partial shutdown.

The package passed the House Wednesday and included funding for the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Veterans Affairs, Energy, Interior, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, there were cuts to various agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Environmental Protection Agency.

This package provides fiscal year 2024 funding for these agencies, which will expire at the end of September.

Congress must pass funding for the remaining federal departments by March 22.
