Credit unions provide vital capital to veteran-owned businesses

Credit unions are uniquely positioned to serve military members and veterans looking to start the next phase of their lives. While nearly 25% of veterans indicate they want to start a small business, they are often met with more challenges in getting the loans they need.

These facts were relayed to lawmakers in a message sent Thursday, along with a video testimonial highlighting how the credit union difference impacted the life of a veteran credit union member in Kentucky.

Abound Credit Union President/CEO Ray Springsteen shares how his credit union stepped up to provide a small business loan that helped a veteran’s running store take off—resulting in a revitalization effort that also created a needed community.

Military household credit union members are nearly two times more likely than non-members to say they are “very positive” they can get a low-cost loan at their credit union.
