Credit union supporter Walkinshaw wins Va. special election
Credit union supporter James Walkinshaw, D, was elected to represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District in Tuesday’s special election. He defeated Republican challenger Stewart Whitson to take the seat left open by the passing of Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va.
Walkinshaw—Connolly’s former chief of staff and a county supervisor—met with America’s Credit Unions and The League of Credit Unions and Affiliates earlier this year to discuss interchange, fraud, data security, and regulation at America’s Credit Unions’ Washington, D.C. office. Walkinshaw voiced his support for the credit union tax-exempt status.
He was supported in the special election by America’s Credit Unions PAC and The League.
