Bennett steps down as Councils chair, Barnes assumes role

After two transformative years as Chair of the America's Credit Unions Councils Executive Committee, Buddy Bennett is passing the torch, leaving behind a legacy of unprecedented growth and strengthened community ties. Under his leadership, Councils membership soared from 5,000 to over 7,500, cementing its role as a cornerstone for credit union professionals nationwide.

Bennett, chief operating officer at Cyprus Credit Union in West Jordan, Utah, brought 17 years of industry experience to this role, shaped by a career that began as a part-time teller and evolved through leadership in HR and training. A 12-year Councils veteran, Bennett’s vision amplified the organization’s reach across eight professional disciplines, delivering enhanced resources, conferences, and peer networks that empowered credit union leaders to innovate and thrive.“

“Buddy’s impact is immeasurable,” said Anthony Demangone, America’s Credit Unions Chief Membership and Engagement Officer. “His ability to foster collaboration and inspire action has elevated our mission, connecting thousands more professionals to the tools they need to serve 144 million credit union members.”

As Bennett concludes his term, America’s Credit Unions welcomes a new leadership team to carry forward his momentum. Brad Barnes, chief financial officer at Air Academy Federal Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., assumes the chair role. A CPA with extensive service on the Finance Council, Barnes is poised to drive strategic excellence.

Faith Anderson, senior vice president and general counsel at American Airlines Federal Credit Union, steps into the vice chair position. With over 20 years in the industry, Anderson’s legal expertise and member-focused advocacy will guide Councils’ next chapter.

Jennifer Kimmell, senior vice president and chief experience officer at TruWest Credit Union in Tempe, Ariz., takes on the second vice chair role. Recognized as one of Arizona’s Most Influential Women in 2025, Kimmell’s 25-year career, including 20 at TruWest, underscores her commitment to exceptional member experiences.
