This week: Shutdown ongoing, Ginnie Mae nomination hearing

The federal government remains shut down, with additional postponements as the House remains in recess. Credit unions continue to work with affected members, and America’s Credit Unions’ shutdown assistance page now has a state-by-state list of credit unions offering services.

The House Financial Services Committee postponed its scheduled Oct. 28 markup.

The Senate Banking Committee conducts a nomination hearing on Thursday to consider nominees, including Joseph Gormley to lead the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae), as well as Department of Housing and Urban Development, Treasury, Export-Import Bank, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation nominees.

The NCUA pushed back the deadline for written comments on its proposed 2026-2027 budget. They are now due Nov. 7.

Registration is open for the 2026 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) 2026, set for March 1 through 5 in Washington, D.C. The most influential government relations conference in the credit union industry, the event will feature dynamic sessions, coordinated Capitol Hill visits, the industry’s largest exhibit hall, and more.

The Filene Research Institute is also accepting nominations for young credit union professionals to “Crash the GAC” through Dec. 1.
