Foundation confirms 2026 Board of Directors

The National Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the U.S. credit union movement, announced its new 2026 board with the re-election of five board members and election of new member Steven Bugg, president/CEO of Great Lakes Credit Union.

The Foundation exists to improve financial well-being with and through credit unions via a strategic approach built on education, inspiration, and implementation. The Foundation’s board plays a critical role in guiding this work and ensuring that credit unions can help their members reach life-changing goals and achieve financial freedom.

The new Foundation Board took effect on Jan. 1. The following individuals were re-elected:

  • Melanie Kennedy, president/CEO, Southwest Financial FCU;
  • Greg Gallant, president/CEO, WeStreet Credit Union;
  • Creighton Blackwell, chief community impact and public affairs officer, Coastal Credit Union;
  • John Sackett, director, Royal Credit Union; and
  • Jenny Vipperman, president/CEO, ORNL Federal Credit Union.

New board member Bugg was an active member of the Foundation’s fundraising committee throughout 2025.

“I’m honored to join the National Credit Union Foundation board,” said Bugg. “Advancing financial well-being requires innovation, partnership, and a deep commitment to the people we serve, and the Foundation embodies all three. At GLCU, we stand alongside individuals during some of the most pivotal financial moments of their lives, and that experience drives us to keep expanding access, equity, and opportunity. I look forward to helping shape a shared vision that strengthens communities across the country.”

Lauren Culp, executive director of the Foundation, added, “We are thrilled to welcome Steven and to continue working with our deeply committed board members. These industry leaders each bring a unique perspective and unwavering focus on financial well-being. Their guidance will help us build and scale impact across the credit union movement.”
